Karen Elizabeth Lumley[2] (born 28 March 1964) is a Conservative Party politician in England. She has been the Member of Parliament for Redditch in Worcestershire since the 2010 general election, when she defeated former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.[3]
Lumley was born in Barnsley, but grew up in the county of Warwickshire, in the town of Rugby. She now lives in the Brockhill area of Redditch. She is married to Richard and has two children, one girl and one boy; both were educated at St. Augustine's Catholic High School in Redditch's Hunt End area. Lumley enjoys cooking, knitting and travelling, and is a big fan of Katherine Jenkins.
She unsuccessfully contested Redditch Parliamentary seat in 2001 and 2005, before finally taking the seat at the 2010 election.
In the House of Commons Karen sits on the Welsh Affairs Committee, the APPG on the Maldives, Azerbaijan, Moldova and also the Conservative Technology Forum. She is setting up three new APPGs: Bosnia (which she will chair), Serbia and Macedonia.
Karen is company secretary of RKL Geological Services Ltd and also a trainer for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy which has involved travelling to Bosnia, Slovakia, Serbia, Mozambique, Moldova, Montenegro and the Maldives where she worked to help elect the new President of the Maldives.
